Vermont Sports Betting

To date, most of the efforts channeled towards the legitimization of Sport Betting in Vermont has gone down the drain. Or, so it seems.

The US Supreme Court, on the 14th of May, 2018, overturned the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA), which restricted states in the US from legalizing sports betting. This gave each state the power to form the individual state’s laws and regulations on sports betting and gambling.

At that point, one would have thought that it would only take a while before Vermonters begin to enjoy legalized sports betting. But this is not the case. To date, the state lottery remains the only widely recognized betting platform in Vermont.

Fortunately, there have been continuous attempts from Vermont lawmakers such as Thomas Burditt, who created a bill (VT H484) in 2019 which would have made sports betting legal. Months ago, members of the Senate committee, Senators Dick Sears and Michael Sirotkin, also filed a bill (S.213) in January 20020 for the same cause.

Although both attempts of the bill have failed, we can tell that it’s only a few steps before sports betting become legal in Vermont.

As we speak, Vermont lawmakers are yet to pass or sign any sports betting bills into law. This is not due to a lack of attempts. There are currently two pending bills stuck in the House and the Senate which could make sports betting legal in Vermont. But none of them have been able to see the light of the day.

However, it’s not all gloom and doomsday. The Vermont state laws make certain exceptions for sports such as horseracing betting, state lottery, and Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS).

Also, the Vermont gambling laws are rather silent on the issue of online sports betting. This makes it technically legal for sports gambling fans to bet on their teams, thanks to an online sportsbook.

Vermonters can also engage in gambling and sports betting activities on offshore platforms available in neighboring states. A fan of online sports betting? Then you can bet on online sports betting platforms available in New York, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or other New England colonies.

Powerball is considered a favorite among locals. And for good reasons too. For starters, the game is pretty straightforward and costs on $2 per play. You can do this by marking the numbers presented in the multi-draw column. No single Vermont Powerball ticket shall exceed $100. The cost of a ticket is largely dependent on the number of panels and draws played.

Every week, a drawing is held by 10:59 PM (ET) on Wednesday and Saturday evenings to determine the winning numbers for that evening. When the numbers are drawn, you win the numbers on your Vermont Powerball ticket for that draw date.
